Buy Swords/Capitol Insurrection

This is about what happened on January 6, and before. This is about the Cross and the sword. This is about how easily we can miss the point (or be led away from the point) for self preservation or preservation of a preferred way of life. This is about hamartia, about missing the mark, about sin. This is a little bit about Christian Nationalism, but only a little bit… that would really require more words. This is about Jesus, and hope for redemption for those far from the Father.

Sowing: The Bail Project

I know that some take Jesus quoting Isaiah 61 to be more metaphorical or spiritual when it comes to declaring release for those in prison (or for that matter the recovery of sight for the blind) but I wonder why can't we go literal and metaphorical (or spiritual) at the same time? Almost half a million people every night do an overnight in jail just because they can't afford bail in the land of the free. The Bail Project is working to change that.

Bending Towards Justice

Compassion Over Pain

The Cross is unearned and unearnable advocacy. I think that that beauty frees us to not have to justify our valuing and advocating for the value of human beings made in the image of God. There are some specific names and faces and stories from the last few months that come to mind: Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake, Elijah McClain. You could add Patrick Warren Sr. No proof of worthiness or value for them as Image bearers should be required. No proof was needed when Christ purchased our freedom and advocated for our value.

Flood Ash (West Coast Fires)

This piece is about the fires that burned and continue to burn on the West Coast of the United States. Romans 8 speaks of the creation groaning in the world in its current fallen state. I believe that the natural disasters and ecological devastation that visits humanity is a physical aspect of creation's groaning. Even these events deemed natural, are I believe, part of a fallen creation that we exist in, and that humanity essentially caused to be broken in the first place. Humanity has an impact on creation which has an impact on humanity. Subduing and proper stewardship of the earth has a couple layers to it. It’s not only abstaining from certain things, but a call and invitation into activity and tending in a number of different ways.
